Fort Fairfield, Maine

Service Provided:

In 2012, APEX was retained by Trane (performance contract agent) and MSAD #20 to provide construction administration and management for a new 3.0 MMBtu/hr biomass boiler and separate, integrated fuel storage building to provide heat for the Fort Fairfield Middle High School and Elementary School buildings. As part of the project, APEX also designed interconnections to the existing high school and middle school hot water distribution system.

The separate, 600 square foot building was constructed to house the Biomass Boiler, fuel handling and ash removal systems, and injection pumps. As part of this project, a large underground wood fuel storage bunker was also constructed. The fuel bunker is equipped with a walking floor for unloading chip onto a conveyor system. The capacity of the bunker is approximately 47 tons of wood chips.

Construction administration services provided by APEX included the review of contractor bids, the review of equipment proposals and shop drawings, as well as consultation and interpretation of the construction documents and on-site supervision of the construction process.
