Sonia Barrantes is building a home, and she's going to heat it with the equivalent of a hairdryer. Impossible? Think again. This single-family house will be Portland's first certified Passive House.
Passive House is the world's leading standard in energy efficient building construction. In order to get a house (or commercial, government, or industrial building) certified by the International Passive House Association, the building must meet three rigorous standards: a maximum energy use per square foot for heating and cooling, a maximum primary energy use per square foot for the house and its occupants, and it must be airtight.
Sonia, our resident Passive House Consultant, must use some creative building methods to ensure her home meets these requirements.
Check out Sonia's progress and follow each construction challenge in her blog.
